From 1956 to 2014 Hyderabad was the capital of Andhra Pradesh state, but, with the creation of Telangana from Andhra Pradesh in 2014, it was predesignated as the capital of both states.
Places to visit in Hyderabad
1.Charminar: Constructed in 1591, the Charminar presents Hyderabad to the world, as its global icon. A monument and mosque in one, it is one of the biggest tourist attractions in Hyderabad.
Also referred as the ‘Arc de Triumphed of the East’, Charminar is adorned with four towers in each corner. The minarets on each side, is of 48.7 m height, each with four store’s. Charminar has a small mosque as well on the top floor.
2.Golconda Fort: The architectural marvel Golconda Fort is well connected to the rest of the city. Built by Qutub Shahi Kings, this fort presents an impressive structure, with eight gates and 87 bastions.
The fort passed through three centuries of dynasties before falling in the hands of the Qutab Shahi’s in the 16th century who established it as their citadel atop a 120-m –high granite hill surrounded by massive ramparts and ringed by fortifications which are 11km in the perimeter.
3.Ramoji Film City: It is One of the largest film studios in the world it has the capacity to house almost 50 film units within a given point of time.
Apart from getting the tour of a film studio there are categories of entertainment defined for different ages, Kids Park, multi-cuisine restaurants and even a bird park.
4.Statue of Equality: The Statue of Equality, also referred to as the Ramanuja statue, is a statue of the 11th-century Vaishnavaite Ramanuja, located on the premises of the Chinna Jeeyar Trust at Muchintal, Ranga Reddy district in the outskirts of Hyderabad. It is the second tallest sitting statue in the world.
5.Chowmahalla Palace: Chowmahalla Palace, with literal meaning of ‘four palaces’ in Urdu language was built in the 18th century. It was during the reign of fifth Nizam, Afzar-ud-Daulah, from 1857 to 1869, that the palace was completed.
The most arresting out of all the places here is the Khilwat Mubarak, a magnificent hall where the Nizams held ceremonies under 19 gigantic chandeliers of Belgian crystal.
6.Lumbini Park: Developed in 1994 by the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority, Lumbini Park has been named after birthplace of Lord Buddha.
One of the main attractions of the Lumbini Park is the giant clock at the entrance of the park which has been designed using various kinds of colorful flowering plants. Musical fountain and the laser show at the Lumbini Park is something which you cannot afford to miss.
7.Salar Jung Museum: The Salar Jung Museum is a treasure trove for any art lover and contains sculptures, paintings, carvings, artefacts and more from across the world.
At the banks of Musi River, Salar Jung Museum is located. With an impressive collection of 43000 art objects, 9000 manuscripts and 47000 printed books, it is considered to be one of the biggest one-man collections of the world.
8.Chilkur Balaji Temple: Fondly known as the Visa Balaji Temple by the local people, Chilkoor Balaji Temple is an ancient Hindu temple is dedicated to Lord Balaji.
Situated in the village of Chilkur, it is a small picturesque place in Hyderabad, located on the banks of the Osman River. It is rumored that if you wish to go overseas and you want your visa to get processed, this temple has special powers to fulfil your wishes and this is the story behind the local name of the temple.
9.Birla Mandir: Located atop 280-foot-high hillock of Kalapahad, the beautiful Birla Mandir has derived its name from the industrialist Birla’s who have constructed Birla temples in various parts of the country.
The temple has 11 ft. tall statue of Lord Lakshmi Narayana with a magnificent lotus carved around it. It also has separate shrines for deities such as ‘Venkateshwara”, ‘Padmavati’ and ‘Andal’ as well.
10. Hussain Sagar Lake: The twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad have had this necklace adorning them since 1562. The necklace called Hussain Sagar Lake, one of the largest manmade lakes in India is one of the best places to visit places to visit in Hyderabad for couples and even with family.
Sit on the shore line of the lake, savior delicacies from the food court on its periphery or enjoy a boat ride in the lake. The charm of the lake is highlighted by the Buddha statue that sits in the middle of the lake.
11.Nehru Zoological Park: The Nehru Zoological Park is home to nearly 1500 specimens of birds, animals and reptiles and also encourages the public to adopt wild animals. It has India’s first butterfly park and this is also the first park where jungle safari was started.
Facilities such as toy train, bicycles for hire and boating are available so that there is an environment for a complete family outing. A park with live sized models of dinosaurs is a big draw for children and makes it one of the best places to see in Hyderabad.
12.NTR Gardens: Spread over an area of 36 acres, the captivating NTR Gardens was developed in the memory of late Shri N T Rama Rao. Not just lush green landscape, this park also has a wide range of recreational choices for visitors such as boating, machan tree, etc.
There is ample of place especially for children. You will have ample of eating options as well, including cafes, restaurant and eat out joints. The mini train offering a short ride through the park is major attractions.
