Meaning Of Goa:
The name Goa came to European languages brought by the Portuguese colonizers, but its precise origin is unclear.
The Indian epic Mahabharata refers to the area now known as Goa, as ‘Goparashtra’ , ‘Gove’, ‘Govapuri’ or ‘Govarashtra’ which means a nation of cowherds.

This Portuguese fort dates back to the 17th century and overlooks the confluence of Mandovi River with the Arabian Sea.
3. Chapora Fort : Chapora Fort is one of the prime tourist attractions of Goa. Perched on a prominent position, one can get sweeping views of all directions from here.
4. Bom Jesus Basilica Church : Characterized by Baroque architecture and fine detailing, carved from basalt embellishments, it is one of the richest facades in Goa.
5. Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary : Sloth Bears, Laughing Hyenas and Indian Bisons are a part of the community along with Monkeys and the Malabar Crested Eagle.
6. Mapusa Market : Mapusa is one of the many famous shopping destinations in Goa. You will find an array of stalls enticing you with local goods got by farmers and small entrepreneurs across the state.
